Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa I’m finally back to review photobooks! My last photobook review felt like ages ago. Life has been way too hectic and tiring these past few months. I have a couple of drafts in the works but somehow I couldn’t find it within myself to actually finish any of them. But this weekend I am finally well-rested and bored (lol) enough to finally make another review. Yay!
First of all, I guess I gotta say that I personally love doing this. Doesn’t matter if no one reads my reviews; I just see it as another way to fangirl and flex my writing muscles. And the act of arranging these merchandise, taking photos of them, and then editing them are sort of therapeutic to me. I constantly complain that I want to have more free time, but during weekends like this where free time is abundant, I… feel bored .-. Doing absolutely nothing makes me anxious, lol. So that’s the story behind this post, I have to do something productive.
So today, I’m gonna review another Jongin photobook (surprise, surprise, right?) by MPST or Motion Picture Soundtrack. This is one of Jongin’s most popular fansite because they produce really well-made merchandise and high-quality photos. While other Jongin fansites balance cute Jongin & fierce Kai pretty evenly, I think MPST lean towards capturing the more dramatic Kai photos. They still have cute Jongin here and there, but what makes them really stand out is their grand, dramatic shots of Jongin on stage. Their photos are very sleek. You’ll probably see what I mean when I show the photobook below.
Here is the overall set. I think this might be my favorite photobook design, just look at that cover.

Dust bag
The whole set comes in this big, white dust bag with the photobook’s logo shown in the front. Pretty minimalist.

soft Jongin ;_;
On to the first merch: an L-Holder! This is a pretty standard merch for a photobook set, but I absolutely adore this one because it’s of Jongin wearing a flower crown! I can’t explain it, Jongin and flowers go so well together <3

the next few merch come in these silver packages with the photobook’s logo sealing it

Postcaaaaards!
The next merch are postcards! even though I don’t have a close up shot, you can tell that the horizontal photocards are the more dramatic ones. Some people might feel like MPST’s photos are too professional and subsequently impersonal, (and I kinda get what they mean), but I’m not gonna complain. I think MPST even takes way better photos than SM, sometimes.

microfiber cloth & anti-electromagnetic wave sticker
Ok. If that microfiber cloth isn’t the cutest thing you’ve seen today that I don’t even know anymore. IT’S. SO. CUTE. But I guess I should explain. Jongin loves eating fried chicken, it’s basically a meme in the fandom at this point. The boy was caught buying KFC alone at three in the morning, come on. And aside from chicken, he loves dogs. He owns a lil poodle named Monggu and he calls himself Monggu’s dad. He was spotted walking around wearing a coat with Monggu in one of his pockets. Look Jongin is the softest person on earth ok I will fight you on this.

Photocards part 1

cute cute cute
On to the next merch: photocards! And MPST has two kinds in this set. The first kind has Kai doing his signature overdose pose as you can see above, and the other is just normal, cute Jongin doing. The back of these photocards are so cute, too ;_; (Here’s a drinking game, take a shot every time I write the word ‘cute’. I’m pretty sure you’ll end up dead by the end of this post).

Photocards part 2

Cuuuuuute ;_;

Bonus transparent photocard! Still with Jongin in a flower crown <3
The next merch is a bonus DVD containing Jongin’s solo performances during Exo’s second tour The Exoluxion. His solo stage is Deep Breath, featuring Mad Scientist Kai and the prelude to Overdose.

Bonus DVD
To be honest I kinda forgot about this DVD and that’s why this shot is so sloppy lol.
The next and the final bonus from MPST is this book of Jongin’s airport looks. Oh did I mention that MPST produces photobooks in A3 size? so this is pretty big, and full of glorious, glorious close ups of Jongin in the airport. Look at that last page, he’s carrying a paper bag with a Monggu sticker on it aaaaaaaaaaahhhh.
On to the main course: the photobook itself! It’s A3 sized and holy moly it’s beautiful. Look at that cover. It’s very simple and classy.

the very first page of the photobook. gorgeous.

one of my favorite shots. Jongin just looks so ethereal here, esp on the right one.

This spread is beautiful. I especially love the one on the right.

This might be my favorite shot. It’s not a solo shot of Jongin, sure, but it’s just so… classy.

Ah, of course. Obligatory Baby Don’t Cry photos lol
Positives and negative, here we go!
(+)
- Overall, it’s a very high-quality set. You could always count on MPST to deliver.
- The A3 size of the photobook really enhances the ‘grand’ feeling from some of the photos. It’s just beautiful, and my photos really can’t do it justice.
- The photocards, the L-Holder, the microfiber cloth; the merch that came with this set are so cuuuuuute ;_; it’s a definite must-have for any Jongin fan
- IT’S THE MOST BEAUTIFUL & CLASSY JONGIN PHOTOBOOK I OWN ENOUGH SAID
(-)
- I really can’t think of anything negative. I’m serious. It’s just that good.
That’s pretty much the gist of it. I don’t really have much more to say about MPST. You could always count on them to take the most breathtaking, beautiful photos of Jongin. They’re professional, they take great photos, and their photobooks are phenomenal.
If you have to choose and get only one Jongin photobook: get MPST’s. easily a 5/5.
